The De Havilland Canada Dash 8 was operated by Luxwing under a wet lease arrangement with Aurigny.

None of the passengers or four crew were hurt and the aircraft sustained ‘no significant damage’ said an airline spokeswoman.

A full emergency was declared but the Town-based services were stood down on their way to the airport, said a Guernsey Ports spokesman, although airport firefighters attended.

Passengers were initially kept on board before being bussed to the arrivals hall after about an hour. The aircraft was towed to the apron shortly after 8.30, the airport reopened at 8.55, and most evening flights got in.

An investigation is being launched into what happened.

The last outbound flight of the day, a flight to Southampton, which had been expected to depart at 6.40pm, was boarded, with the door and gate closed. But then it was cancelled just before 8pm.

Aurigny apologised to customers on the flight.
