The annual charity fundraiser is returning on the May Day Bank Holiday Monday.

World Aid Walk committee member Louise Smith said islanders should get ready to lace up their walking shoes and join in.

‘This annual event, driven by a passion for positive change, brings hope and support to those in need around the world,’ she said.

‘From providing lifesaving aid in times of crisis to championing education, healthcare and human rights, these charities have been at the forefront of positive change, empowered by the support of walkers.’

The Guernsey World Aid Walk has now been running for more than 50 years, and this year will be raising funds for five good causes.

The Eleanor Foundation and The Tumaini Fund charities are working in Tanzania, while This Is EPIC supports communities in rural Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The funds will also help Christian Aid and Action Aid.

The event on 6 May mainly follows the island’s coastal paths. The 20km Guernsey walk will begin at 10am, starting and finishing at Rovers AC at Port Soif.

There is also a half-distance route, which will begin at Pembroke at noon.

The Herm route is 8.5km, starting at the harbour at 10am and finishing at the Mermaid Tavern.
