All six pups are doing well and improving daily, but with recent stormy weather the GSPCA has found it difficult to get fresh fish.

‘We order the fish in bulk as each seal pup eats 20 to 30 mackerel or herring a day,’ said GSPCA manager Steve Byrne.

‘We are hugely grateful for all of the donations so far to the seal pups and thank those in advance that will help with this much needed appeal.’

All six of the seals had their own medical issues and are now being nursed back to health.

It is the largest number of seals held by the GSPCA at one time.

Its head of marine mammals, Geoff George, said: ‘The pups are doing very well and we have had some fantastic donations, but with all the rough seas recently our big delivery of fish is yet to arrive and so we are appealing for help.

‘The weather has actually stopped us from releasing Marty, who was rescued from Jersey and is now ready to go back into the wild when there is a break in the weather.’

Islanders who would like to donate fresh fish, which has ideally been caught in the last three months, can drop it round to the GSPCA.

If you do not have fish, the organisation is welcoming donations to their justgiving page to help raise money for more seal food. Almost £2,000 has been donated so far.
