THIS weekend, nine GIAAC coaches start a series of practical and theory modules, under the supervision of one of UK Athletics' top tutors, Matt Gillard, which will enable them to move up to level two UK Athletics coaches. During the two days at Foote's Lane, they will be assisted to plan, deliver and monitor sessions in all athletic events.

This is part of the club's Development Program funded by Healthspan.

Terry Bates, Guernsey's Athletics Development Officer, said: 'The need not only for additional coaches, but also for more higher qualified coaches, is always going to be present, and this weekend sees the fulfilment of part of that need. More courses are planned for the future, and as long as we have such enthusiastic members the club will continue to grow.'

One of the club's coaches is well on her way to becoming a level two throws coach already. Jill Loveridge went to Jersey in September to take part in the same two-day training course as her colleagues are completing this weekend, and is now eagerly awaiting her assessment day in April.

Club President, Charlie Cottam, added: 'These courses are essential to the continued development of the club.'
